Starting & Stopping Your ID. Buzz

The ID. Buzz features convenient all-electronic ignition and drive activation.

    Turning On the Vehicle

    1. Some vehicle functions are activated as soon as you sit in the driver's seat with a valid key fob on you, but the drive train is not yet activated. This is called comfort-ready mode.

    2. With a valid key in the vehicle, press the brake pedal and the drive system activates. A “READY” text in the ID. Cockpit as well as an audible low, constant hum indicate the vehicle is ready to be driven.

    Shutting Off the Vehicle

    1. When a drive is complete, press the brake pedal.

    2. Set the electronic parking brake by pressing the button on the end of the gear selector.

    3. With the electronic parking brake activated, simply exit the vehicle to power it off automatically.

    Gear Selector Lever

    Gear Selector Lever

The ID. Buzz has an intuitive shifter on the right side of the steering column. Twist to activate Drive or Reverse, or press the button on the end to engage Park.

From the N position, where no power is transmitted to the wheels and the braking effect of the electric drivetrain is not available:

    • D: Twist the gear selector forward.
    • B: Twist the gear selector forward twice. This will engage energy recuperation when coasting.
    • R: Twist the gear selector toward you. Only select this gear when the vehicle is stationary.
    • : Only switch on when the vehicle is stationary.

    Charging

    Types of Charging

    Types of Charging

    AC Charging

Level 1 AC charging can be done at home using a Level 1 charging cable. This is the slowest form of charging and is typically used overnight as supplemental charging.

Level 2 AC charging can be done at a charging station, by using a Level 2 charging cable, or by using a wall box which offers higher AC power than a standard outlet.

    2-in-1 Mobile EV Charge Cable

Volkswagen offers a 2-in-1 Mobile EV Charge Cable, which offers both Level 1 and Level 2 charging capabilities. Please reach out to your preferred dealer to check availability or scan the QR code below.

Purchase a 2-in-1 Mobile EV Charge Cable in the
Volkswagen Parts and Accessories Online Store.

    DC Fast Charging

    DC Fast Charging

Level 3 DC charging can be performed at a public charging station where it is charged with a very high charging power. This significantly reduces the charging time.

    How to Charge the Vehicle

    Connecting the Charging Cable

    1. With the vehicle unlocked, press on the left side of the charge port door.
Note: The rear passenger sliding door will not open all the way if the charge port door is open.

      • If using a DC fast charger, remove the DC protective cap from the charge port.

    2. Plug in the charging cable, making sure the cable is secure. Do not press the button on top of the connector when inserting.

    3. If using a public Level 2 or Level 3 charger, you may need to activate the charge via mobile app, charger screen, or other instructions on the charger.

Depending on your charge settings, the charge session may start immediately or begin later if a scheduled charge is programmed. A green indicator light near the charge port confirms a successful connection and active charge session. In addition, you'll see charging status details displayed in the vehicle's Infotainment screen.

Note: A very high charging power is used for DC fast-charging. Frequent fast-charging can permanently decrease battery capacity. Charge the high-voltage battery primarily with AC power.

    Disconnecting the Charging Cable

    1. Unlock the vehicle.

      • If “Unlock AC charging connector automatically” is enabled in the charging settings, the charging connector will automatically unlock once Level 1 or Level 2 AC charging is completed. To activate this feature, go to Charging > Settings > Unlock AC charging connector automatically and enable the feature with the toggle.

    2. Press the release button on the charging connector and remove the charging connector.

      • If using a DC fast charger, replace the DC protective cap on the charge port.

    3. Press the charge port door to close it, ensuring it fully latches with an audible click.

Scheduled Charging via the Infotainment System

Scheduled Charging via the Infotainment System

Charge scheduling can be used to limit when the vehicle charges in order to take advantage of off-peak electricity rates (if you are enrolled in a plan from your electrical utility that offers variable rates), or to ensure the vehicle is freshly charged for a planned journey.

To set up a charging schedule:

    1. Save a charger location by opening the Charging app from the App menu.

    2. Select Locations in the left navigation bar.

    3. Tap “Add current position as a charging location” and enter a name for the location, then select OK.

    4. Tap one of the timer icons or > to open the scheduling menu.

    5. Set the desired departure time and select the days of the week for this departure, as well as if you want it to repeat.

You can also set the Climatronic system to have the cabin pre-conditioned for the departure. Heating the cabin in cold weather also warms the battery for better performance.

    To set the desired temperature:

    1. Open the Aux. climate app from the App menu.

    2. Select Climate ctrl. in the left navigation bar.

    3. Set the desired temperature via – or +, and toggle “Automatic window defogger” on or off as desired.

    4. Select Departure in the left navigation bar.

    5. Tap one of the timer icons or > to open the scheduling menu.

    6. Set the desired departure time and select the days of the week for this departure.

    7. To enable, check the box next to the desired departure time.

    8. Enable “Include climate control” in your charge schedule.

    Cold Weather Charging

Like most EV battery systems, Volkswagen electric vehicles are optimized for an ambient temperature of around 72 degrees Fahrenheit. When the battery is cold, it may only accept a lower charging power. The vehicle’s software determines this limitation, and it is necessary to prevent damage within the lithium-ion cells.

Here are some tips to help you get the most out of your ID. Buzz in colder weather:

    • Try preconditioning the climate settings while your EV is connected to a charger. This will help ensure the effort of heating the cabin doesn’t come from the high voltage battery but rather the electrical power grid, thus maximizing the energy available when driving.

    • Typically, the higher your state of charge (SOC), the slower the speed your vehicle will charge, contrary to what one may think. Your ID. Buzz will calculate and request from the charger the energy needed to charge the high-voltage battery safely and efficiently while considering things like temperature and consumption needs (like climate preconditioning).

    Battery Optimization

Check your vehicle’s current DC charging potential and time needed to reach maximum potential using battery heating. You can also manually enable battery heating if needed.

    1. Open the Charging app from the App menu.

    2. Select Optimization in the left navigation bar.

    3. If available, tap “Start battery heating” before charging at a DC fast charging station. If there is active route guidance to a charging station using factory-installed navigation, battery heating will be automatically engaged as needed.
Note: The option for battery heating will only appear if it’s needed.
