How to disconnect Remote Vehicle Access 

In certain circumstances, such as domestic violencesituations, you have options to protect yourconnectedvehicle dataincluding terminating a person’s access to yourconnectedvehicleservices account.  

Terminate access to connected vehicle data 

Submit Request to Terminate Access  

If you are a victim of domestic violence and would like to terminate a person’s access to yourconnectedvehicle data (including the ability to view avehicle’s location),Volkswagen Customer CARE can assist. Please submit a formal request to: 

If you are a Louisiana resident, please include the following: 

  • Your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).Locate VIN
  • A certified copy of a protective order or a temporary restraining order against the person whose access you wish to terminate that has been signed by a judge, hearing officer, or commissioner (or any other official document showing that the person committed domestic abuse, sexual assault, or stalking). 
  • Proof of your ownership interest in the vehicle or a certified copy of a judgment that provides exclusive use of the vehicle regardless of ownership.

For residents of all other states, please include the following: 

  • Your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).Locate VIN
  • Proof of legal possession of your vehicle through either (1) legal title to thevehicleor (2) a dissolution decree, temporary court order, or domestic violence restraining order that awards you possession or exclusive use of thevehicle. 

NEW YORK RESIDENTS ONLY: A written statement, signed and notarized, that you are a victim of domestic violence (as defined below*). In New York, if you are unable to provide proof of legal possession as requested above, you may also provide proof that you and the owner of the vehicle were married at the time the vehicle was bought or leased, 

*A victim of domestic violence is any person over the age of sixteen, any married person or any parent accompanied by his or her minor child or children insituations in which such person or such person's child is a victim of an act which would constitute a violation of the penal law,including, but not limited to acts constituting disorderly conduct, harassment, aggravated harassment, sexual misconduct, forcible touching, sexual abuse, stalking, criminal mischief, menacing, reckless endangerment, kidnapping, assault, attempted assault, attempted murder, criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation, strangulation, identity theft, grand larceny or coercion; and (i) such act or acts have resulted in actual physical or emotional injury or have created a substantial risk of physical or emotional harm to such person or such person's child; and (ii) such act or acts are or are alleged to have been committed by a family or household member.  

We will send you a confirmation email with a tracking number for your request and contact you by email if we need additionalinformation, or to tell you that your request has been approved or denied. Unless otherwise specified here, yourinformation is subject to the VW Privacy Statement. All documentation submitted will be treated as confidential and deleted within 90 days of completing your request. We will not share thisinformation with any third party without your affirmative consent, unless sharing is necessary to complete the disconnection or inresponse to a court order or warrant. 

Self-service methods to protect your connected vehicle data 

If you are unable or unwilling to submit the documentation required foremergency removal in connection with a domestic violence situation, there are self-service methods available to help you protect access to yourconnectedvehicle data andvehicle location. Please review each method thoroughly to determine which process best meets your needs. Note that some of these methods may send a just-in-time notification to users who have been removed. 

Method 1: Perform a Factory Reset 

A factory reset will cancel yourconnectedservices subscriptions andvehicle pairing to your myVW account, terminating access toconnectedvehicle data. Performing a factory reset is easy and can be performed as-needed through your vehicle’s infotainment system. Notice: Once a factory reset has been performed, a confirmation email will be sent to all myVW account users associated with thevehicle. And since a factory reset cancels all subscriptions, refunds (if applicable) will also be issued to the purchaser’scredit card. 

In some instances, a factory reset will also close the myVW account. 

In the event of an account closure, you may elect to re-enroll at any time. Please note re-enrolling will not restore subscriptionservices. You will need to resubscribe. To re-enroll in myVW, you will need tocreate a new account here: Re-Enroll in myVWOpens an external link

A Factory Reset is recommended only if you're confident you can maintain physical access to your vehicle

Method 2: Remove additional users from your myVW account 

If you are the primary myVW account holder, you can control user access to yourconnectedvehicleservices by removing any additional users added to your myVW account. Select the VW Help Center link below to learn more.

Note: Any users removed from your myVW account will be notified via email.
