Rotations to replacements, we’re well rounded on your tire needs.
Your tires are responsible for keeping you connected to the road—that’s a pretty big deal no matter how small a distance you travel. So to help make sure your tires haven’t lost their grip, bring your car to your local Volkswagen dealership, where trained VW Technicians can inspect tread wear, sidewall damage, tire pressure, balancing, and more.
Should you need replacements, Volkswagen Recommended Tires are specially matched to your vehicle’s handling and performance requirements. Refer to your VW Online Owner’s Manual for more info on which type of tire is right for your model.
When replacing tires, remember:
An improper or mismatched tire can contribute to a serious accident
Mixing tire types can reduce their grip on the road and lead to less control
Purchase the size and type of tires specified by your Volkswagen model’s owner’s literature and recommended by your VW dealer
Is it time to replace your tires?
Between here, there, and everywhere in between, we’re sure the last thing on your mind is running into a tire-related issue on the road. But by routinely checking your tire tread for wear, you can help avoid these potential setbacks. Your Volkswagen Recommended Tires should have built-in wear indicators evenly spaced around the circumference of the tire.
When tire tread is worn down to 2/32 of an inch, the tread wear indicator will appear, telling you it’s time to visit your VW dealership for a replacement
Another effective way to check a tire is to use a penny:
- Put the president’s head in one of the treads
- If part of his head is covered, you’re okay
- If you can see all of the president’s head, it’s time to replace that tire
A worn tire can also contribute to skidding and hydroplaning
A tire showing cuts, bald spots, or other damage may lead to tire failure and loss of vehicle control
Knowing how to check your tire tread is an important skill that can tell you a lot about your vehicle, including traction, alignment issues, improper tire inflation, as well as worn shocks and struts. Visit your local VW dealership to learn more.
Balanced travels begin with proper wheel alignment.
Why is it important to make sure your wheels are perpendicular to the ground and parallel to each other? While the main priority will always be the safety of the driver and passengers, the benefits go well beyond helping make sure you have a secure ride.
Wheel alignment should be checked when you get a new set of tires, after a collision, or whenever repairs or service are done to the suspension or steering components
Other indicators that your alignment needs to be checked are your vehicle pulling to the left or to the right when driving straight on level roads, or your tires being unevenly worn
Getting regular wheel alignments (every 6,000 miles or six months) can help minimize tire wear, enhance handling, increase fuel efficiency, and help ensure driver safety
